THE STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE & THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS ENDORSE JOAN ILLUZZI FOR STATEN ISLAND DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Just one day after the New York Daily News published their ringing endorsement, the Staten Island Advance also endorsed lifelong Staten Islander and expert prosecutor Joan Illuzzi to be the next District Attorney of Staten Island. Ms. Illuzzi's strongest supporters, including many of the borough's elected leaders, have emphasized that these endorsements prove that Ms. Illuzzi's stellar record of experience as a senior prosecutor has resonated with the people of Staten Island, and that she is poised for victory on November 3rd:

Congressman Dan Donovan:

"It is no surprise to me that both the Staten Island Advance and NY Daily News enthusiastically endorsed Joan as the best candidate to lead the DA's office. Her deep criminal justice experience makes her far and away the most qualified person to continue the progress we have made making Staten Island the safest community in the safest big city in America. I urge all Staten Islanders to join us in electing Joan on November 3rd." 

Councilman Steve Matteo:

"Staten Island needs a District Attorney with prosecutorial experience to keep Staten Island the safest borough in the safest big city in America. In this election, the choice is obvious as Joan Illuzzi has dedicated her life to fighting crime and has an impressive resume of nearly three decades as a highly successful Assistant District Attorney in this city. Our choice for district attorney: Joan Illuzzi

"Simply put, [Joan Illuzzi] is no scrub; she's a leader in one of the most prestigious prosecutors' offices in the nation. It's impossible to overstate the importance of that experience, and voters can have full confidence that, if elected next week, she will be able to take over the ever-busier Staten Island office, that has been led recently by the always-capable interim D.A. Daniel Master, without missing a beat. 

She understands the mechanics and drivers of crime, from the street to the boardroom. And she knows how the criminal justice system works as well as anyone because she has lived with that throughout her professional life.

Against this, Mr. McMahon can only tout his ample community experience ... But he is not a prosecutor, pure and simple.

And as much talent and experience as there is to be found among the assistants in the borough office now, we believe Ms. Illuzzi's substantial expertise should be decisive in this important election.

Bottom line: Politics aside, Ms. Illuzzi, though not as well known or as polished a campaigner as her opponent, is every bit the prosecutor this borough, with its burgeoning caseload of big-city-style crime, sorely needs.

We urge Staten Island, regardless of party loyalties, to give her their support on Election Day.

We have no doubt that she will serve our borough with fairness, distinction and diligence for years to come."

Illuzzi for Staten Island DA 

"Running as a Republican, Illuzzi served for 27 as an assistant district attorney under legendary Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau, as well as under Morgenthau’s respected successor, Cy Vance. They both relied on her for tough assignments.

Morgenthau promoted Illuzzi to senior trial counsel, giving her charge of the most difficult, high-profile cases.

Illuzzi’s experience in criminal justice...ideally suits her to taking charge as Staten Island DA.

Her accomplishments far outshine those of her rival, Democrat Michael McMahon, an affable former city councilman and single-term congressman who is looking for a return to public office in a job for which he lacks the proper credentials."
