Russia illegally takes out museum collections from Crimea, including a unique collections of Crimean museums to the Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia)

illegally takes out museum collections from Crimea, including a unique collections of Khersonesus, Sudak and the Central Museum of Tavrida in Simferopol, to The Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia). This was stated by Lyudmyla Denysova, the head of the permanent delegation of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, after a meeting of PABSEC in Tirana, Albania, Joinfo.ua reports.
PABSEC supports Ukraine in an attempt to prevent the destruction of cultural heritage in areas of
“I want to emphasize that any actions of the Russian Federation on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, aimed, inter alia, to replace the jurisdiction in respect of cultural, industrial and technical heritage of Ukraine, is a direct violation of the sovereign rights of Ukraine, as well as the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, “- said Denysova.
According to her, the committee on culture, education and social issues of the PABSEC supported the proposal of Ukrainian delegation on the amendment to the recommendation of the Committee, which stresses the need to take action based on international law and, in particular, on the provisions of the Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the case of armed conflict, to prevent the destruction of cultural heritage in areas of armed conflict or in occupied territories.
During the discussion, an amendment to the recommendations of the Committee on Culture, Education and Social Affairs of the PABSEC “The fight against the illegal use of cultural heritage in the BSEC Region” was supported by other PABSEC members and adopted with editorial corrections to the Turkish delegation. As Denysova stated, the agenda of the meeting – struggle against the illegal use of cultural heritage in BSEC region – is very up to day, not only for Ukraine, but also for the part of the Republic of Moldova (unrecognized Transnistria), Azerbaijan (Nagorno-Karabakh ) and Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia). “The illegal appropriation and use of the cultural heritage of other countries in these regions, within the BSEC, is of particular concern,” – she added.
According to Denysova, Ukraine was outraged by the decision of the Russian government on the adoption of the federal property of the National Reserve Khersonesus, located on the Crimean peninsula. “We emphasize that the status cultural heritage of Ukraine in the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol did not change, because the so-called” Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Crimea on the adoption of Republic of Crimea by the Russian Federation and establishment of a new subject of the Russian Federation, ” concluded on March 18, 2014 in Moscow, is void and does not create any international legal consequences”, – said Denysova.
In addition, Denisov noted that the UN General Assembly resolution “On the territorial integrity of Ukraine” urges the United Nations specialized agencies, in particular UNESCO, not to recognize any changes in the status of Crimea and Sevastopol. “In this regard, we demand the immediate cessation of international crime in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and putting responsibility, including material, on the Russian side and the illegitimate power of the Crimea”, – said the MP.
It should be recalled that Representatives of the Russian occupation authorities of peninsula are considering excluding Crimean pine from the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
