Fifth Annual Russian Documentary Film Festival in New York

The Fifth Annual Russian Documentary Film Festival in New York will be held at Tribeca Cinemas from September 28th until September 30, 2012. This year the fifth jubilee festival is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of The New Review, the oldest Russian Émigré journal in the USA. We are proud to present a varied program of new documentaries - winners of both Russian and international film festivals in 2011/2012, that were made by directors in Russia, and by Russian-speaking directors in America. Hosts of the fifth festival: Jon Alpert, DCTV Co-Founder & Co-Executive Director, Producer, Reporter; Leonid Parfyonov, Russian news anchor, journalist, and producer of some popular TV shows; Ernst Neizvestny, world-renown sculptor.

More than 20 documentaries will be presented for 3 days: films about Russian history and modern society; about world-renown non-conformist artists, DS children, Russian Holy persons, etc. Among them are:

The Nuremburg That Wasn't
Director: Igor Holodkov. Conception and Screenplay: Irina Vasilieva, winner of the Grand Prix at the Fourth Annual Russian Documentary Film Festival in New York. Produced by the Fishka Film Studio. Moscow, Russia.

The End of Cinema
Director: Irina Vasilieva. Produced by the Fishka Film Studio. Moscow, Russia.
Winner of the Grand Prix of the Pokrov International Russian Orthodox Film Festival IX in Kiev.

The Mark
Director: Olga Arlayskas. Produced by the Artvideo Studio. Moscow, Russia.
Recipient of the United Nations Award at the International Film Festival of Human Rights “Stalker”, as well as prizes at ARTDOCFEST, the National Laurel Wreath Award.

A Diary from Burnt Ghetto
Director: Evgeny Tsymbal. Produced by the Horosho Production Studio. Moscow, Russia.
Winner at the Saratovskye stradaniia International Documentary Melodrama Festival.

I Will Forget This Day
Director: Alina Rudnitskaya. Produced by the St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio. Russia.
Second prize of the jury at XIth "DocumentaMadrid" IFF, Spain, 2011;World Pulse RTP Award and Amnesty International Award at the VIII IFF IndieLisboa, Portugal, 2011; Competition at 51st IFF Krakow, Poland, 2011; Special jury prize at the ninth Window on Europer Film Festival, Vyborg, 2011; Best Short Documentary Film at XXI IFF “Message to man", Saint-Petersburg, 2011; 2011; "The best documentary" at the 5th World Independent Film Award, Warsaw, Poland, 2011; "The best creative documentary (art film) on video or film" at "Lavrovaya vetv", Moscow, Russia, 2011; etc.

Inside the Squaring of the Circle
Director: Valeriy Shevchenko. Produced by the Vetrov-Realnoe Kino Film Studios. Moscow, Russia.
Won Best Short Film at the Russia Open Documentary Film Festival and also Best Student Film at the Kinoproba Film School's International Festival Workshop.

The Cinematic Hero – A Century of Russian Mystification
Director: R. Saulsky. Produced by the Central Scientific Film Studio. Moscow, Russia.

Odnoralov’s Coat (Part of the Film Competition program)

Eye of God (Part of the Film Competition program)

An Abandoned World or They’re Singing Once Again
Director: Vladimir Khaunin. Produced by the St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio. Russia.

Ernst Neizvestny's Bronze Age – Part 2 (Part of the Film Competition program)
Directors: A. Shishkov and Elena Yakovich. Produced by the RAKORD-TV Studio. Moscow, Russia.

Man of God
Director: Maria Reshetnikova. New York, USA

Additional festival screenings will be held at the following venues, with the gracious support from our sponsors: the Russian Cultural Center «Otrada», New York and the Rodina Society's cultural center, New Jersey.

All films screened at Tribeca Cinemas will be shown with English subtitles. Roundtables will be held as part of the Festival, with film-makers from Russia and the Russian Diaspora in the US. Select films in the program will be introduced by their directors and producers, who will be available for Q&A.

The Fifth Russian Documentary Film Festival is being held by its initiator - The New Review, Inc. (USA) and Causa Artium, Inc. with help of Documentary Program «Free Thought» at the Moscow International Film Festival (Russia). It is made possible with support from Russky Mir Foundation (Russia), Loeb Partners Corporation, and RNA in America.
