Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis accepting her nomination from the Staten Island GOP

The Staten Island Republic County Committee  unanimously backed Staten Island's incumbent GOP state lawmakers for reelection on Thursday, but postponed a number of endorsements.

State Sen. Andrew Lanza (R-Staten Island) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-East Shore/Brooklyn) were both nominated to run for re-election.

The GOP county committee voted during a meeting at the Vanderbilt in South Beach to postpone endorsements for New York comptroller, attorney general, lieutenant governor, the North Shore state Senate seat, the North Shore Assembly seat, and the Mid-Island Assembly seat.

"We can still run candidates for these offices. I'm actually in conversations with Brooklyn and we may have a candidate out of Brooklyn to run against Sen. Savino and we'll see how that shapes out," said Brendan Lantry, the Staten Island GOP chairman. "I'm happy to say that we're still exploring candidates for these other seats, but we wanted to get our convention done early."

The Republican County Committee also endorsed Staten Island Community Education Council president Michael Reilly for the South Shore Assembly seat and endorsed Assemblyman Ron Castorina for the Island Surrogate Court judgeship.

The county committee also unanimously endorsed Marc Molinaro for governor of New York.

"Marc Molinaro is a proven leader and exactly the dynamic candidate we need to rescue our state from the job-killing, tax-and-spend policies of Andrew Cuomo and the culture of corruption running rampant in Albany," Lantry said.

Lanza and Malliotakis spoke briefly after being nominated and hit on New York City's recent decision to possibly allow heroin inject sites.

"I'm appalled as a former prosecutor, but more than that I am saddened as a father," Lanza told the committee. "That's an oxymoron. There is no safe way to put poison in your arm."

Malliotakis added, "We're seeing ideas to open up heroin injection centers, which to me is a terrible idea.  We're going to condone this and basically put a community center for heroin users to to shoot up."
