The festival program will include a screening of Andrzej Wajda's socio-political drama "Man of Iron" ("Człowiek z żelaza") on May 31 at 1:30 pm.

The film "Man of Iron" is a sequel to "Man of Marble" (1977).

The film is set in 1980 in communist Poland, engulfed in a strike movement. Radio journalist Winkel (Marian Opania) is assigned to make a compromising report on a worker at the Gdańsk shipyard, the leader of the strike committee, Maciej Tomczyk (Jerzy Radziwiłowicz).

Winkel (Marian Opania)

Maciej's father was killed during workers' protests in December 1970. While preparing the report, Winkel meets people who know Tomczyk well, including his wife Agnieszka (Krystyna Janda), who has been arrested by the authorities.

The journalist's loyalty to the regime is put to the test.

The film uses documentary footage of the strikes at the Gdańsk shipyard in 1980.

The founders of the Solidarity movement, Lech Wałęsa and Anna Walentynowicz, appear in cameos as themselves.

The film was completed a few hours before its premiere at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival.

The film "Man of Iron" has received many awards. Among them:

- Palme d'Or and Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival;

- Special Award of the New York Film Critics Circle, as well as a nomination in the category of Best Foreign Language Film in 1981;

- Nomination for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1982;

- Nomination for a Cesar Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1982;
