On May 30 at 6:15 pm, Andrzej Wajda's film "Katyń" about the events of the Katyn massacre will be shown in the Scandinavia House (58 Park Ave, New York, NY 10016). The literary basis of the film is the story by Andrzej Mularczyk "Post Mortem - Katyn Story".
The diaries of Polish officers held in the Kozelsk camp were used in the preparation of the film, in particular, Major Adam Solski. The story with the sweater given to another prisoner of war is described in the diary of Wacław Kruk.
The film uses the music of Krzysztof Penderecki - the Second Symphony and "Chaconne in Memory of John Paul II" from the "Polish Requiem".
The film is dedicated to the parents of Andrzej Wajda. His father, Jakub Wajda, died in Katyn.
The plot of the film begins on September 17, 1939 and ends in the fall of 1945.
At the beginning of the film, masses of civilian Polish refugees meet on a bridge. One part of the population is moving east from the German troops, and the other part is moving west from the Red Army troops, which entered the territory of Western Belarus and Western Ukraine. The main character of the film, Anna, finds out where the officers of the 8th Krakow Uhlan Regiment, in which her husband serves, are located and meets with him. The husband refuses to run away with her and returns to his fellow officers.

At this time, a representative of the Wehrmacht arrives and hands over the Polish officers to the representative of the NKVD. The NKVD escort troops load the Polish officers into prison cars and take them to the territory of the USSR, to the Kozelsk NKVD transit point, where they are then shot...
The premiere of the film "Katyn" took place in Warsaw on September 17, 2007 - the day Soviet troops entered Poland in 1939.
